THE BLOCK: Challenge apartment Part 1

It was a week of tears, budgeting tantrums and some amazing new gadgets to complete the first half of Melbourne’s ‘smartest’ apartment.  FullSizeRender

Editor of PropertyUpdate.com.au Liz Rudenko, takes a look at some of the highlights.

Technology has certainly become a hug part of our lives – on our phone, in our cars and now in our homes.

This week’s first reveal of the constants challenge apartment proved not only a great deal of style, but revealed brand new technological aspects of a home that we many see more and more of.

After all who would want to walk into their home, yell out ‘honey’, and have all their appliances working without lifting a finger.

And so the highlights…

Without a doubt the 2 highlights of the week were both bathrooms – each for different reasons, but both absolutely stunning.H2_R10_Challange_DC-5-1-1290x860

Dan and Carleen’s ensuite, was really on point the season’s Art Deco theme – but did not feel at all out of date.

The use of subway tiles was perfect for the space, and really made all the extra elements pop.

The star of room though had to be the floating timber vanity which was simply divine –  and the lighting either side of it gave a subtle edge to the space.

Andy and Ben’s bathroom had a slightly more contemporary feel – but in no way does that take away from its sense of luxury.

The marble tile on the walls is stunning, and worked beautifully with all the black tap-ware.H4_R10_Challange_JS-5-1290x860

In terms of styling, I can’t go past the lovely touch of the timber bath caddy, such a simple touch and so adorable in any bathroom.

Despite the judges less than kind words about Julia and Sasha’s kids bedroom – I thought it was absolutely schick and adorable.

The subtle grey tone is perfect for both a boy and a girl, matched with a dreamy wallpaper behind the bed.

But the absolute standout had to be the swing – what a magical little element for a child to have.

One week to go…

With some of the grandest rooms still up for reveal before auctions day, there’s no guessing what these contestants have up their sleeve.

One thing’s for sure – there’s a lot of style still to come.
