Hospitals to become large scale Employment Hubs of the future

There are some substantial changes happening at some of Brisbane’s Hospitals that are boosting employment opportunities.

I have already outlined a number of opportunities  happening in the inner city of Brisbane that are set to boost jobs and click our economy up a gear. 

While there are 3 or 4 large Hospitals in Brisbane, the largest is the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

In 2016, it’s 6,000+ staff treated more than 600,000 patients.

This precinct is also home to 600 scientists in the adjacent Clive Berghofer Medical Research Institute.

In addition, development has started on the $1.1bil Herston Quarter to add yet another dimension to this huge employment hub.

Australian Unity will join forces with the Queensland Government to develop a world class health and wellbeing precinct.

The headline will be a 132 bed Specialist Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Care Centre that will assist patient’s recovery and cut elective surgery waiting times. 

There will also be a new private hospital incorporating medical suites and commercial space.

In the wellbeing precinct, there will be aged care services and retirement living and a specialised location for community services and facilities.

There will be an upgrade of the existing childcare facilities that will double the number of places currently available, as well as retail and restaurant facilities.

It comes as no surprise then to see where the bulk of jobs will be created here in Queensland in the next 2 – 3 years:

These kinds of massive projects and specialist fields are what drives people to Brisbane from interstate and overseas.

Our larger Hospitals all have some element of this going on whether it be the children’s hospital added to the Mater Hospital or the various research institutes at the PA Hospital.

They all provide a valuable service to the local community but also provide a huge amount of jobs and as they continue to expand, will become huge employment hubs that drive our local economy.
